Innovative multi analytical Characterisation of the influence of pAtina-coating inteRaction on anti-corrosive propErties
Outdoor bronze sculptures and ornaments are vital cultural markers in urban spaces, yet they face continual degradation from environmental exposure. While natural patinas initially offer some protection, they eventually fail to prevent corrosion. Traditional anti-corrosive treatments often pose environmental concerns and offer limited efficacy.
The PRIN 2022–InCARE project addresses this issue by advancing eco-friendly conservation methods and tackling the critical need for standardized testing protocols. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the project aims to establish validated methodologies for evaluating and enhancing the preservation of bronze artworks.
Key expected outcomes of the project:
Optimized coating formulations
Comprehensive assessments of treated surfaces
Refined strategies for evaluating protective treatments.
Develop standardized protocols for both laboratory-based and portable non-destructive testing techniques.
These advancements will culminate in the creation of the InCARE integrated evaluation protocol, providing a robust framework for the effective and sustainable preservation of outdoor bronze artworks.
